Scott Brundage- Demons Within

Duke Agares, ruling the eastern side of hell, is described as an old pale man riding on a crocodile. The picture on wikipedia mde him look so dignified, I had to knock it down a bit. Supposedly, he also takes pleasure in "teaching immoral expressions." Rather than some royal dude in armor, I can much more easily picture this dude teaching me swears.

"Hey kid!" <looks around> "Fuck."

Scott Brundage- What are you Afraid of?

Got a bit choked for time this week, so had to keep it pretty simple this time around.

Seems the more important fears have been covered. Mediocrity, failure, death of a loved one, all relevant to me in may personal ways.

But for reals. Little Richard terrified the shit out of me growing up. I know, now, that he is music royalty and a groundbreaking artist. As a child, however, he was the disturbing half-clown with huge teeth and weird eyes, rockin a hairlip creeper stache. I'd be minding my own business watching Full House or PeeWee and this guy would come on and the lights would dim in the room, his caked makeup face would eclipse the television and WOOOO!!!! WOOOOO!!!
     WOOOOOO!!!!!
         WOOOO!!!!!

Scott Brundage- Things that go bump

I like that everyone's getting all autobiographical with this one. Seems like we were all properly paranoid as kiddos.

My family's living room had a couch with large window at it's back facing our backyard. I'd stay up and watch TV and always feel eyes at my back. At first it was crocodiles looking in my window, then simply intruders, then just the idea of something menacing watching.

The bifocals are completely historically accurate.

Scott Brundage- My Halloween Memory

I'll never forget that time an undead mummified chimp bit my hand off.

(Grew back just fine.)

Scott Brundage- What Terrified You As A Child?

I read a lot of books about dinosaurs growing up. One, thinking it was being helpful in showing young kids the scale of how large a dinosaur was, used a house next to a silhouette of a T Rex to show it's size. Unfortunately, that particular house looked just like my parent's house. And the T Rex's face was level with the window that would have been my bedroom.

So... I was scared whenever my back was to my window for a good couple years.

Scott Brundage- My Favorite Horror Story

When I read, I tend to be a bit tentative about new stuff, not wanting to devote a lot of time to a book I'll end up not liking. But when I find an author, I devour everything he or she put out on the market. For a while, I read nothing but Clive Barker. Good lord he can get dark.

He put out a fantastic collection of short stories called Books of Blood. I probably could have chosen any one of those to illustrate, but Pig Blood Blues seemed to lend itself most to my strengths.

Set in a juvenile detention facility, a former police man starts working there and notices rumors of ghosts and missing children. He attempts to help an overly bullied little boy, and as things spiral further into dark regions, he finds himself watching children worship a giant pig. He attempts to save the boy from the pig, and ends up a sacrifice himself.

Now imagine that rambling synopsis presented coherently, believably and poetically. Disturbing shit.

Scott Brundage- What's your recurring nightmare?

Haven't had any nightmares that repeated in a long time. But there was a solid streak through my grade school years where I'd look down to discover I'd forgotten to dress myself. Part of the bizarre nature of these nightmares was the fact that the other students totally ignored my nudity. That made it somehow even more disturbing.
